After numerous debuts in recent years at car shows around the world, 2011 Honda CR-Z (Compact Renaissance Zero) is for North American consumers in August as an electric hybrid compact and marketed as a hybrid sports coupe.
The CR-Z combines a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain and is the sequel to the second generation Honda CR-X design and same name. A CR-Z gasoline-electric hybrid model is offered only by a car that can be equipped with a manual gearbox.
The new Honda is offered in three trim levels: Base, EX and EX with navigation and has a base price ranging from $ 19,950 to $ 23,310.
Test Drive Weekly Driver
Models of new cars often get attention, but because the CR-Z is available for less than two moths, novelty and unique exterior design, which resulted in an almost immediate response.
Beginning of my test week with the release of the EX, I met a friend in a restaurant environment. I pulled into the parking lot and almost out of the car when two young people want to learn all about it. A few minutes after meeting my friend, another bar patron asked about the CR-Z.
Highway passersby do not double, may be thinking. Is it a sports car No, it’s really a hybrid, with that design? “
With a sloping hatchback, the response I got was a microcosm of the enthusiastic response elsewhere. Nearly 2000 CR-Z models sold in the month of September in the United States, making the CR-Z hybrid five most popular countries for the month.
I drove the CR-Z (still Variable Transmission), about 100 miles under overcast skies and steady rain. It was the highway and the car performed well with a good front (and rear) Wiper efficiently. Vehicles still be handled a short patch of puddles on the highway without a problem.
Honda CR-Z Interior
Make no mistake. The new Honda is a two seater, but there is a surprising amount of headroom and legroom. Platform quasi-fold rear seat, flat load presents the cave for a compact car.
Gauges, controls the radio, heat and air conditioning functions and intuitive navigation system is big and thick in the center console. Again, it is very impressive given the status of a compact car. Silver metal finish throughout the cabin add a touch of class.
Honda CR-Z Exterior
Hatchback ever-so-slightly tilted Euro streamlined, making the CR-Z is a clear landmark. , Flush pull-yourself-style doors
handles add to the sporty look attractive.
Honda CR-Z Performance
Part of the hybrids suffer from the start the engine or accelerate and wait a few seconds’ delay hybrid.. CR-Z is a hybrid that does not know it’s a hybrid. It has been criticized as “underpowered,” but I have never had a problem or hesitation to start or accelerate. This is not a fast sports car, but never fought in the hills.
Likes:
Comfortable front seats.
Digital clock read on the navigation screen.
Solid interior door handles.

Dislikes:
Poor visibility. Like the Toyota Prius, the rear view cut in half horizontally and further blur the appearance of a small column.
Cup holders are positioned far forward, almost under the dashboard.
Curve of the rear seat can hold shopping bags or other small container, but otherwise useless area.

“There will be some people who just love the CR-Z. They will look past a lot of things seen as a detriment.
